Angelique’s Journey: The Path of a Bard and Mercenary

From the tranquil forests of Gridania, Angelique always felt a pull toward the unknown, a yearning to see what lay beyond her homeland. At just sixteen, she bid her family farewell, a bow slung over her shoulder and a lute in hand. Her travels took her across Eorzea—through the bustling streets of Limsa Lominsa and the sun-baked markets of Ul'dah, each destination adding a new verse to her life’s epic ballad. But it wasn’t just the sights and sounds that drew her in. No, it was the stories. Angelique had a knack for learning what others did not speak aloud—gathering whispers, secrets, and tales from the people she met, all of which she wove into her music. It was her way of finding her next adventure, a way to chart the course for her future. One evening, as she sat in the Adventurer's Guild in Ul'dah, two Roegadyns sparked her curiosity. Their heated discussion, filled with hushed words and grim faces, mentioned a place called Shalloani. A desert far to the south. Though their words were vague, the mystery of the place stirred something within Angelique. She knew her next journey would lead her there. The desert of Shalloani was a harsh, unforgiving place. But Angelique’s aim with a bow was as sharp as her wit, and she hunted down the monsters that roamed the sands, earning respect among those few brave enough to venture into its depths. Yet, it was the journey that lay after Shalloani that intrigued her most—the dome, known as Heritage, where hunters like herself gathered. But there was something different about them—each one wore a Soul Regulator, an odd contraption attached to the side of their heads.Curiosity led her to learn more, but Angelique was hesitant. She considered using one, thinking it might give her an edge in the dangerous hunts, but ultimately, she decided against it. As the hunters around her grew reckless, relying on the power of their Soul Regulators, Angelique stood apart, honing her skills without the aid of such technology. At first, the hunters regarded her with skepticism. How could someone survive and excel without the benefits of a Soul Regulator? But her dedication, skill, and quick thinking won them over. Soon, she was known as one of the top hunters in Heritage, and even the most experienced of the group sought her advice. But fame came with its burdens. One night, seeking a moment of solitude, Angelique wandered outside the hunters’ quarters for fresh air. She found herself in an unfamiliar part of the camp, where she overheard a conversation that sent a chill down her spine. A group of men were plotting to take the Soul Regulators by force, and they made it clear that anyone who opposed them would be killed.Angelique knew she had to warn the others, but as she tried to back away, her foot caught a twig, alerting the men to her presence. Panic surged in her chest as she realized she was surrounded. She had no choice but to fight. Her bow was a blur in her hands, and her quick thinking helped her survive the encounter, though not without injury. Bruised and battered, Angelique made her way back to the hunters’ quarters and warned them of the threat. The hunters rallied together, stopping the plot in its tracks. The nights that followed were restless for Angelique. The memories of that night haunted her, and she struggled to sleep. After much contemplation, she realized she couldn’t stay in Heritage any longer. The weight of what she had endured was too much. So, she left for Solution Nine, a distant land where she spent seven years finding peace and solitude, attempting to leave the memories of the desert behind her.But the call of Eorzea was never far from her heart. After seven long years, Angelique felt the pull to return—to find a new purpose, to see old friends, and to begin again. So, she packed her things and journeyed back to Limsa Lominsa. In Limsa, she had a plan—a new start. The life of an adventurer had been one of constant danger, and though the songs of her past would forever linger in her heart, Angelique wanted something more. She would become a mercenary. But she knew the life of a mercenary had to be kept secret, so she bought a house in the Mist and turned it into a club. A place where mercenaries could meet in the shadows, and jobs could be taken in silence. For weeks, Angelique worked tirelessly, creating flyers and advertising for people to work at her club. She knew the right kinds of people would come to her. She just had to be patient. One night, as she opened the door to her club, she was met with an unexpected sight—a Miqo'te, bruised and weary, leaning against the doorframe. Her name was Xe'rada, and with quiet resolve, she asked if Angelique was still looking for workers. In that moment, Angelique knew she had found her first mercenary.Xe'rada’s presence was like a spark—something that could light the way to a future Angelique hadn’t fully envisioned yet. Together, they would build a team, face unknown dangers, and perhaps, along the way, write a new chapter in the ballads Angelique would sing for years to come.
